Introduction
Praise be to Allah alone Who gave everything their due rights. May peace and blessings beupon the chosen Prophet and the selected Messenger, his family, his Companions, andthose who follow their way.
This book is based on a Ramadan broadcast program that was delivered in Al Qur’an AlKareem Radio Station in 1417 AH. Few episodes of this program were published in Ad-Da`wah Magazine, however some audience and readers demanded to publish all episodes inone book for public utility.
Those episodes were under the name of “Siyam School,” but they dealt with only one topicwhich was explaining the obligatory rights due for a person in this life, beginning with theright of Allah (Glory be to Him) then the right of the Messenger (peace be upon him). Thus,in each episode or more one of these rights will be studied.
While writing, I was keen to make it short and to be connected with the Qur’an and theSunnah. I do not claim that I have completed the entire work or even most of it because I was confined to the conditions of broadcast, specific time and specific circumstances, however what cannot be attained in full, a part of it may be attained.
This is my work; if it is correct, I ask Allah to reward me for it, raise my degrees, and expiates my sins. However, if it is not correct, I ask Allah to pardon me. Moreover, if my dear readers see anything that needs advice, guidance, or criticism, I will be very grateful to receive them because this will be part of cooperation for good and piety.
I ask Allah for success, guidance, and reward.
May Allah’s Peace and Blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

Lesson 1 : The Right of Allah (Glory be to Him) (1)
Monday 16 April 2012
Praise be to Allah, Who granted His Believing Servants the occasions of glad tidings and good to double their rewards and expiates their sins. May peace and blessings be upon the one whom Allah sent as a guide, bearer of glad tiding, and a warner for the people. The one who called to Allah by His Leave and was an illuminating lamp. May peace and blessings be upon him, his family, his Companions, the followers, and those who follow them.
One of the greatest tasks and beneficial means that draw a person near to the pleasure and fear of Allah is self-accountability by considering the past times and revision for many of his actions. Many times have passed and their months, weeks, days, and hours were counted against us. During which a person has committed many sins, enjoyed desires and lusts, and seen the different conditions of life, joys and sadness, which hardened the heart and kept us away from the Lord of the heavens and the earth. In addition, we forgot about the Last Day and about death, so we had to advise and remind people, perhaps admonition awakes the neglectful hearts and warns the distracted minds to revise themselves and come back to its senses to rectify their behaviors.
Dear honorable Muslims: During these blessed lessons —in sha’ Allah— we shall remember and remind others with a set of rights that are due for us which many people do not know or tolerate all or part of them. A group of people, who messed up in the different valleys and paths of this world, ignored them, so it might be an admonition to the indifferent, an education for the ignorant, a warning for the wasters, and a good advice for fulfilling these rights and act according to them for the sake of Allah.
The right of Allah is the first of all these rights and the most important, and every right emerges from this important right because it is the basis that every Muslim should not ignore or do not know, rather than tolerate that right.
Dear Muslim brother: The right of Allah is the cause for which all messengers were sent, all scriptures were sent down, and for which man was ordained to fulfill in this worldly life. Upon which reward and accounting depend as well as happiness and success in this world and in the Hereafter. Therefore, it is better for a Muslim to know it and revise it from time to time because there is no happiness, success, security, or tranquility save fulfilling it.
From the rights of Allah are the following: unification of Allah in terms of Himself, unification of Allah in terms of His Lordship, unification of Allah in terms of deity and worship, and unification of Allah in terms of His Names and Attributes.
The meaning of unification of Allah in His Lordship is: To declare that Allah is one in His Actions by admitting that Allah is the Owner, the Creator, the Provider of sustenance, the One who gives life and the One who takes it away, the Beneficent and the One who is Able to cause harm, and the only One who can answer the invocations at need. He has all affairs and matters in His Hand and in His Hand is all good, and He is Able over everything; glory be to Him who has no partner. Allah (Glory be to Him) says: Say (O Muhammad peace be upon him): “Who provides for you from the sky and the earth? Or who owns hearing and sight? And who brings out the living from the dead and brings out the dead from the living? And who disposes the affairs?” They will say: “Allah.” Say: “Will you not then be afraid of Allah’s punishment (for setting up rivals in worship with Allah)?”﴿ Allah (Glory be to Him) says: And if you ask them who created them, they will surely say: “Allah.” How then are they turned away (from the worship of Allah, Who created them)? ﴿ Allah (Glory be to Him) says: And If you were to ask them: “Who sends down water (rain) from the sky, and gives life therewith to the earth after its death?” they will surely reply: “Allah.” Say: “All praise and thanks are Allah’s!” Nay, most of them have no sense. ﴿ Allah (Glory be to Him) says: Is not He (better than your gods) Who responds to the distressed one, when he calls on Him, and Who removes the evil, and makes you inheritors of the earth, generations after generations? Is there any ilah (god) with Allah? Little is that you remember! ﴿
There are numerous Ayahs which show that Allah (Glory be to Him) is the only one who has dominion and creation, sustenance and management, giving life and taking it, and benefit and harm. All people, even the polytheists who did not deny it as shown in the previous Ayahs, know this kind of unification.
A believer believes and admits that lordship is solely for Allah Alone, feeling that sense in his life, and fulfilling the implications of that unification. When a person knows that Allah is the sole Creator and Provider, he will invoke Him alone without associating any of His Servants with Him.
One of His Unification too is: the unification of Allah in terms of His Names and Attributes. Allah (Glory be to Him) called Himself names in His Book and the Messenger of Allah attributed names to Him. He also described Himself with some attributes and the Messenger (peace be upon him) described Him with some attributes. So, it is obligatory on Muslims to call Allah with the names and attributes He chose for Himself without knowing the nature of this quality, without comparing Allah to His Servants, without distortion, and without disabling. They are names and attributes fit the glory and greatness of Allah and no one of His Creation is like Him There is nothing like Him; and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer. ﴿ Allah (Glory be to Him) is All knowing, All Able, and He is the Ever living and the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him. He has the full will and the absolute wisdom. He is All Hearing All Seeing, the Compassionate and the Most Merciful, and He rose over the Throne. He is the King, the Holy, the One Free from all defects, the Giver of security, the Watcher over His creatures, the All-Mighty, the Compeller, the Supreme. Glorified is Allah! (High is He) above all that they associate as partners with Him. He has all these beautiful names and high qualities and others.
It is the right of Allah that a Muslim should believe in the beautiful names and high attributes of Allah and does not associate any partner with Him. A Muslim should not interpret these attributes to disable them and should not compare them to the attributes of humans by seeking to know its nature, but he should attribute to Allah what He or His Messenger attributed for Himself and negate the attributes that He or His Messenger negated. Allah (Glory be to Him) says: And (all) the Most Beautiful Names belong to Allah, so call on Him by them, and leave the company of those who belie or deny (or utter impious speech against) His Names. They will be requited for what they used to do. ﴿ Allah (Glory be to Him) says: Say (O Muhammad peace be upon him): “Invoke Allah or invoke the Most Gracious (Allah), by whatever name you invoke Him (it is the same), for to Him belong the Best Names. And offer your Salah (prayer) neither aloud nor in a low voice, but follow a way between. ﴿
The Pious predecessors understood that meaning and acted upon. Imam Malik (may Allah bestow mercy upon his soul) was asked about Allah’s Saying: The Most Gracious (Allah) rose over (Istawa) the (Mighty) Throne (in a manner that suits His Majesty). ﴿ Thereupon, he said: The meaning of (Istawa) is well-known, but the nature is unknown, believing in is obligatory, and asking about is a heresy. Imam Ash-Shafi`y (may Allah bestow mercy on his soul) used to say: I have believed in Allah and in what was reported about Him in the way He meant. And I have believed in the Messenger of Allah and in what he came with as the Messenger of Allah meant. Imam Ahmad (may Allah bestow mercy on his soul) said while speaking about the attributes of Allah: We have faith in them and believe them without knowing their nature and without interpreting them. There is nothing like Him; and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer ﴿
Dear Muslim brother: These were some short pauses and references, perhaps they draw our attentions to revise this basic and important right. Let each one of us account himself to renew his faith and monotheism in order to increase his fear, reverence, and glorification to Allah and to see the reflection of that meaning on one’s work and behavior.
I ask Allah by His Beautiful Names and High Attributes to apportion to us such fear as should serve as a barrier between us and acts of disobedience; and such obedience as will take us to Your Paradise; and such as will make easy for us to bear in the calamities of this world. He is All Hearing, All Responding, and the Only one who is sought for help.
We shall continue our discussion in the next lesson, in sha’ Allah.

Lessons on the Obligatory Rights due for Muslim

The Second Lesson The Right of Allah (2) The Unification of Worship (1)
The Second Lesson The Right of Allah (2) The Unification of Worship (1)
Monday 21 May 2012

Praise be to Allah who granted us faith, guided us to Islam, and made us from the followers of Muhammad peace be upon him, his family, his righteous Companions, and those who follow them until the day when Allah resurrects the creatures.
Honorable Muslims, in the previous lesson we spoke about the first right due for Muslims which is the right of Allah (Glory be to Him).
We knew that the right of Allah (Glory be to Him) is one of the greatest rights that a Muslim cannot ignore. One of the most important rights is: Unifying Him (may He be Glorified and Exalted) as we referred to His Oneness in lordship, Names and Attributes. In this lesson we shall continue the issues related to monotheism. Unification of divinity and worship which is the objective of creating jinn and humans as Allah (may He be Exalted) says: "And I (Allâh) created not the jinn and mankind except that they should worship Me (Alone)."  Allah (He may be Glorified) says: "So worship Allâh (Alone) by doing religious deeds sincerely for Allâh’s sake only."  Allah (He may be Glorified) says: "You (Alone) we worship, and You (Alone) we ask for help (for each and everything)."  Allah (Exalted be He) says: "So worship Him (O Muhammad peace be upon him) and put your trust in Him."  Allah (He may be Glorified) says: "O mankind! Worship your Lord (Allâh), Who created you and those who were before you so that you may become Al-Muttaqûn (the pious). * Who has made the earth a resting place for you, and the sky as a canopy, and sent down water (rain) from the sky and brought forth therewith fruits as a provision for you. Then do not set up rivals to Allâh (in worship) while you know (that He Alone has the right to be worshipped)."  Allah (Exalted be He) says: "And verily, We have sent among every Ummah (community, nation) a Messenger (proclaiming): “Worship Allâh (Alone), and avoid (or keep away from) Tâghût (all false deities i.e. do not worship Tâghût besides Allâh).” Then of them were some whom Allâh guided, and of them were some upon whom the straying was justified. So travel through the land and see what was the end of those who denied (the truth)."  Allah (Exalted be He) says: "And We did not send any Messenger before you (O Muhammad peace be upon him) but We revealed to him (saying): Lâ ilâha illa Ana [none has the right to be worshipped but I (Allâh)], so worship Me (Alone and none else)."  Allah (Exalted be He) says: "Verily, I am Allâh! Lâ ilâha illa Ana (none has the right to be worshipped but I), so worship Me."  Allah (May He be Exalted) says: "The Lord of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, so worship Him (Alone) and be constant and patient in His worship. Do you know of any who is similar to Him? (of course none is similar or co-equal or comparable to Him, and He has none as partner with Him). [There is nothing like Him and He is the All-Hearer, the All-Seer]."  Allah (Exalted be He) says: "And worship your Lord until there comes to you the certainty (i.e. death)."
All these Ayahs confirm the right of Allah to be worshipped on earth and stating that man is legally competent to do so. Moreover messengers were not sent except for conveying this divinity as Allah (Exalted be He) says in the previous Ayah which reads: "And We did not send any Messenger before you (O Muhammad peace be upon him) but We revealed to him (saying): Lâ ilâha illa Ana [none has the right to be worshipped but I (Allâh)], so worship Me (Alone and none else)."
Allah (He may be Glorified) says about Noah (peace be upon him): "And indeed We sent Nûh (Noah) to his people, and he said: “O my people! Worship Allâh! You have no other Ilâh (God) but Him (Islâmic Monotheism). Will you not then be afraid (of Him i.e. of His punishment because of worshipping others besides Him)?"  He also says to Hud (peace be upon him): "Worship Allâh! You have no other Ilâh (God) but Him (Islâmic Monotheism)."  He also says to Salih (peace be upon him): "Worship Allâh! You have no other Ilâh (God) but Him (Islâmic Monotheism)."  Jethro (peace be upon him) said to his people: "Worship Allâh! You have no other Ilâh (God) but Him (Islâmic Monotheism)."  And Abraham (Ibrahim) (peace be upon him) said: "Verily, I have turned my face towards Him Who has created the heavens and the earth Hanîf, (Islâmic Monotheism, i.e. worshipping none but Allâh Alone), and I am not of the polytheists.”
Dear Muslim, this right was mentioned clearly in the Sunnah as was reported by Al Bukhari and Muslim in their Sahih (books of authentic Hadiths) on the authority of Mu`adh ibn Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: I was riding on a mount behind the Prophet (peace be upon him). Thereupon he said to me: “O Mu`adh, Do you know what Allah’s Right upon His servants is? and what the right of His Servants on Him is?” I said: Allah and His Messenger know best?
He said: "Allah's right on His Servants is that they should worship Him (Alone) and should not worship any besides Him. And servants’ right on Allah is that He shall never torture him who worships none besides Him." I said: O Messenger of Allah, Should I not inform the people of this good news? He said: "Do not inform them of it, lest they should depend on it (absolutely)."
Al Bukhari and Muslim reported on the authority of Ibn `Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Prophet (peace be upon him) sent Mu`adh to Yemen, he said to him: "You shall go to a group of people from the Scriptures, so when go to them, first of all invite them to the testimony of there is no god but Allah."  In another narration: "Call them to the unity of Allah," and in another narration: "to worship Allah alone."
So, the right entailed to Allah (Exalted be He) is to worship Him as Shaykh Al Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah bestow mercy on his soul) defined: "Worship is a word that includes all things that Allah loves and things that please Him whether sayings or inward and outward actions).
Therefore, it includes all sayings and actions of a person whether acts of the heart or acts of organs and whether these acts are inward or outward.
Worship in this concept is (the Oneness of Worship) which is the meaning of “La ilaha illa Allah” (there is no deity but Allah). This monotheism is the first ordinance due on a fully competent person as it is also the first act to embrace Islam, the last thing that a Muslim utters in the world, the message that was written in all Divine Books, and the message of all messengers as was mentioned in the previous Ayahs.
Each Surah in the Glorious Qur'an calls to oneness either frankly or implicitly. Shaykh Al Islam Ibn Taymiyah (may Allah bestow mercy on his soul) said: (So, the entire religion is included in worship)
This means: Every act must emerge from worshipping Allah and submission to Him. So, the ordinances of Allah (Exalted be He) should be fulfilled, what He prohibited should be avoided, and what He commanded you to believe in must be done whether these acts are minor or major. Thus, monotheism is built on directing all kinds of worship to Allah alone and showing sincerity to Him whether in beliefs, sayings, or actions.
These acts of worship trace back to four kinds; they are as follows:
1- The first kind is: Acts of worship related to the heart.
2- The second kind is: Verbal acts of worship related to the tongue.
3- The third kind is: Actual acts of worship related to the body organs.
4- The fourth kind is: Financial acts of worship related to money.
In the following, we shall handle these kinds with more details and examples:
1- The first kind is: Acts of worship related to the heart alone:
This kind is the most important of all as it is the basis for other kinds, for example:
1- Affection: It is meant for loving Allah, which is the highest kind of affection and the most beneficial. The faith of a servant is not valid without it and will not be correct except when a person follows that way. Allah (May He be Exalted) says: "And of mankind are some who take (for worship) others besides Allâh as rivals (to Allâh). They love them as they love Allâh."  The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: "Whoever possesses the following three qualities will have the sweetness (delight) of faith: 1- The one to whom Allah and His Messenger becomes dearer than anything else. 2- Who loves a person and he loves him only for Allah's sake. 3- Who hates to revert to Atheism (disbelief) as he hates to be thrown into the fire."
The true affection is that pushes a person to act according to things that please his Lord (may He be Glorified and Exalted). A person who disagree with affection will be contradicting himself and sign of the truthfulness of this affection is to follow Muhammad (peace be upon him). Allah (May He be Exalted) says: "Say (O Muhammad peace be upon him to mankind): “If you (really) love Allâh then follow me (i.e. accept Islâmic Monotheism, follow the Qur’ân and the Sunnah), Allâh will love you and forgive you your sins.”
Hence, the faith of a person will not be complete until he practices this affection which has priority over all other kinds of affections, even though the love of one's parents, oneself, and the love for all people as was authentically reported in the Hadith of the Prophet (peace be upon him).
2- Fear: The meaning is to fear Allah (Glory be to Him): It is one of the most important acts of worship related to the heart. Allah (Exalted be He) says: "so fear them not, but fear Me, if you are (true) believers."  Allah (Glory be to Him) says: "Do you fear them? Allâh has more right that you should fear Him."  Allah (Glory be to Him) says: "Therefore fear not men but fear Me (O Jews) and sell not My Verses for a miserable price."  Allah (Glory be to Him) says: "But for him who fears the standing before his Lord, there will be two Gardens (i.e. in Paradise)."
Among other Ayahs that indicate to that great act of worship which cannot be claimed only be tongue, but it is a feeling in the heart that makes a person watchful against what he fears. Therefore, who fears Allah will take a shield from Him, act to please Him, and stay away from things that may bring about His wrath and angry. Imam Ibn Al Qayyim (may Allah bestow mercy on his soul) said: (The praised sincere fear is the fear which makes a barrier between a person and the prohibitions of Allah (Glory be to Him).
3- Hope: which is looking forward to the mercy of Allah (Exalted be He), His Favor, Bounty, and His Generosity. It is of three kinds:
A- A hope from someone who obeys Allah, so he awaits the reward.
B- A hope from a person who had committed sins then repented of his sins, so he hopes for the pardon and forgiveness of Allah.
Those two kinds are laudable.
C- A hope from a person who exceeds the limits of Allah and commits sins; in this case he hopes for the Mercy of Allah (Exalted be He) without actions and this is a false hope. A true hope is not valid except it is accompanied by good deeds. Allah (Exalted be He) says: "So whoever hopes for the Meeting with his Lord, let him work righteousness and associate none as a partner in the worship of his Lord.”  Allah (Glory be to Him) says: "Verily, those who have believed, and those who have emigrated (for Allâh’s Religion) and have striven hard in the Way of Allâh, all these hope for Allâh’s Mercy. And Allâh is Oft-Forgiving, Most-Merciful."
Dear Muslim brother: We have to feel these great meanings with our hearts, embody them in our practice, and their impact should be manifested in our organs, our movements, and silence, for the sake of Allah (Exalted be He), fearing of His Punishment, and hoping for His Mercy perhaps Allah (may He be Praised and Glorified) may make us from those about whom Allah says: "hope for His Mercy and fear His Torment."
I ask Allah (Exalted be He) to increase our lover for Him, fear of Him, and our obedience to Him for He is All Respondent and the only One who is sought for help. We shall continue our speech in the following lesson with the willing of Allah.
